FIFTH GENERATION

16. Richmond TERRELL was born on 17 Oct 1624 in Reading, England. He died between 1677 and 1683 in New Kent County, Va. (Blissland Parrish).
Richmond TERRELL (frequently shown as Tyrrell) came to America in 1656 and settled in New Kent County (Land Patent Book, Richmond, Book 4, page 12). On 28 Nov 1656, Richmond Terrell is granted 640 acres for transportation of 13 persons, among them his Brother, Robert. The land is northeast side of Cattail Swamp. The patent is issued by Sir William Berkley, Governor. In the years that folllow, Richmond Terrell is granted large tracts of land in New Kent and James City Counties, Virginia. Richmond Terrell is also active in the Church of England in Blissland Parish.

Elizabeth UNK was born in 1683. Richmond TERRELL and Elizabeth UNK had the following children:

child+21 i. Richmond TERRELL, JR. died in 1765 in Louisa County, Virginia. He was born in New Kent County, Virginia. Diane Dandridge Allen shows the wife of Richmond Terrell, Jr. as Catherine Crump (who we show as the wife of another Richmond Terrell, Richmond RIN #1888).
child+22 ii. Timothy TERRILL was born in 1658 in New Kent County, Virginia. The family spells the name both Terrell and Terrill in the early days. After Timothy Terrill (RIN#1600), most of his descendents elect Terrill, while the descendents of his brothers pick Terrell. In addition to the five children listed here, Timothy Terrill may have had several other children including daughters Elizabeth and Mary (however, Dicken notes (p.38-9) that these two had their marriages recorded in Christ's Church Parish, Middlesex County, while Timothy was in New Kent County until his death). Obbediah Terrell may be a son. He was with this Timothy's son Timothy in Tennessee fighting indians. And there are Archibald Terrell and Presley Terrell who moved from Orange County, Virginia, to Woodford County, Kentucky, in 1807. Dicken lists some of their children (p.40). She speculates they may be sons of William Terrell (RIN #01891) and grandsons of Timothy.
child+23 iii. William TERRELL was born in 1667 in New Kent Co, Virginia.
William Terrell lives in the part of New Kent that became Hanover Co. He lived on the South Side of the Pamunkey River, near the junction of the North Anna and South Anna Rivers, in an area called "the forks."
We should note that some historians believe this William (the one who marries Susannah Waters) is in fact the William we show as RIN #1618, the brother of Richmond Terrell.
We believe that William probably didn't stay in Virginia, but returned to England.
Emma Dicken offers an entire chapter to proof that this William is the son of Richmond and not his brother.
child24 iv. Robert TERRELL(1) was born about 1662.
According to Emma Dicken, there is a strong possibility that Richmond may have had a fourth son, Robert, who, on 20 April 1682, was granted 170 acres of land in New Kent Co. At that time, Robert, brother of Richmond, was not alive. Nineteen years later there is another grant to a Robert Terrill in Middlesex Co., VA. This Robert married Mary and baptized a son, Robert on 13 May 1707 in Middlesex Co.
