SECOND GENERATION

3. Timothy TERRILL was born in 1658 in New Kent County, Virginia. The family spells the name both Terrell and Terrill in the early days. After Timothy Terrill (RIN#1600), most of his descendents elect Terrill, while the descendents of his brothers pick Terrell. In addition to the five children listed here, Timothy Terrill may have had several other children including daughters Elizabeth and Mary (however, Dicken notes (p.38-9) that these two had their marriages recorded in Christ's Church Parish, Middlesex County, while Timothy was in New Kent County until his death). Obbediah Terrell may be a son. He was with this Timothy's son Timothy in Tennessee fighting indians. And there are Archibald Terrell and Presley Terrell who moved from Orange County, Virginia, to Woodford County, Kentucky, in 1807. Dicken lists some of their children (p.40). She speculates they may be sons of William Terrell (RIN #01891) and grandsons of Timothy.

Timothy TERRILL and Elizabeth FOSTER had the following children:

child7 i. Mary TERRILL was christened on 3 Jan 1688 in New Kent County, Virginia.
child+8 ii. Robert TERRILL.
child+9 iii. Joseph TERRELL.
child10 iv. William TERRILL. On 09 Feb 1737/8 William Pickett patented land on the north side of the Conway river, above the land of William Terrell. (Madison/Green Counties). It is possible this William has Timothy & Obediah (who were in Orange County, NC) and later became Indian fighters (and died) in Tennessee. While there is no evidence, this William would be the right age to be father to Richard C. Terrell.
child11 v. Timothy TERRILL. Some historians suggest this Timothy Terrill (son of Timothy Terrill, RIN #1600) is the same as Timothy Terrell RIN #1890. However, their ages don't match. RIN #1890 Timothy might be the son of this Timothy. Emma Dicken says "The Timothy Terrell b. 1739 was plainly a generation younger than the Timothy who was in Orange County, Va. in 1742." (Dicken, p.40)
