19. James TEMPLE
(9) was born in 1772 in Mecklenberg County,
NC. He died in 1822 in near Memphis, TN.(5)
James Temple was "...well educated, of a quiet disposition and noted
for his integrity, was greatly respected for his many virtues. He was a farmer,
owning a large farm and a number of slaves. He was also a surveyor, but this
was an accomplishment rather than a profession, an no mean one a hundred years
ago." (Mary B. Temple, "Notable Men of Tennessee.")
James Temple was about 40 when he married. He died at 50 of malaria while
on a surveying trip near Memphis, TN. All the children were young at his passing.
He was married to Mary McCoy "Polly" CRAIG (daughter of
Samuel CRAIG and Jane Innes BURNS) on 12 Jan 1811 in Greenseville,
TN.(10) Mary McCoy
"Polly" CRAIG(11) was born
in Dec 1791.(5)
Manry Craig was "...a woman of fine judgement, superior business ability
and a strong will. She was unusually gentile and amiable. When left a widdow,
in 1822, with seven minor children, she managed her estate so well that it nearly
doubled in value by the time the youngest child became of age." (Mary B.
Temple, "Notable Men Of Tennessee.") James TEMPLE and Mary McCoy "Polly"
CRAIG had the following children:
