33. William Henry POWERS
was born on 8 Jun 1832 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He died on 26 Jul
1911. He was buried in Kenbridge Cemetary. He was originally burried on "the
farm" (the Harvey S. Powers farm) in a cemetary plot in the middle of the
garden. At the time of Harvey's death and the sale of "the farm," the
grave of William Henry, his wife and Harvey Street's daughter, Louise, were moved
to Kenbridge.
A Private in Company E (Jordan's Co), 4th Reg't, Va Heavy Arty, later this
unit becomes the 34th Reg, Va. Infantry (29 Aug 1861-10 Apr 1865). After the
Civil War, William Henry POWERS and his Uncle Lee O. Abernathy begin buying land
around Flat Rock Creek in Lunenburg County. On 11 Jan 1870, (DB 39, p.488), he
makes the first of several purchases of the Ingram-tract, land that was once
owned by Doctor William Ingram. At the time of his will, 17 Jul 1911, William
Henry POWERS owned 496 acres, which he divides equally among his five children,
with the exception of son John Powers. His share is left to John's wife Xenia
Powers. He was married to Sarah Jane BAILEY (daughter of
Richard Henry Lee BAILEY and Lucy GEE) on 21 Dec 1871 in Lunenburg
County, Virginia. Sarah Jane BAILEY was born on 21
Mar 1841 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. She died on 19 Jun 1923 in Lunenburg
County, Virginia. She was buried in Kenbridge Cemetary.
Sarah Bailey outlived her husband. She lived with her daughter Emma and
died at Emma's home in Lunenburg County. William Henry POWERS and Sarah Jane
BAILEY had the following children:
