3. John Thomas PAYNTER was born on 18 Oct 1861.⁽²⁾ He died on 1 Mar 1935 in Warren County, NC.⁽²⁾ He was buried in Wise Bap. Ch.Cemetary, Wise, NC.
Six of the children of John Thomas Paynter as shown here, come from the John Thomas Paynter will (dtd 20 Feb 1929 and probated 4 Mar 1935) (Warren County Will Book 55, p. 70.). The will does not name the seventh child. His obituary says there were seven children and that one had died before he passed.
The will explains that John Thomas Paynter had already given some land to Maynard and that the rest of his 145 acres was to be divided among the five remaining children after both he and Cathrine had passed.

He was married to Catherine Jane "Kate" KING (daughter of Armistead G. KING and Lucy Ann HICKS) in 1885. Catherine Jane "Kate" KING was born on 5 Dec 1866. She died on 8 Feb 1944. John Thomas PAYNTER and Catherine Jane "Kate" KING had the following children:

According to his obituary, John Thomas Paynter had seven children. Six were still alive at his death. The six named here are named in his will. We do not know the name of the seventh child.
There was some confusion over John L. Paynter. He apparently went by his middle name: Lillian. And we were confused and thought him to be female.
