50. Helen Vaughan ELLER was born on 16 Mar 1904 in Philadelphia, PA. She died on 1 Dec 1979 in Richmond, Virginia. She was buried in Kenbridge Cemetary. Helen ELLER grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. Her brothers nicknamed her "Sissie."
In the 1920' she left High School in Petersburg to enter nurse's training at Alexandria Hospital. She was certified a Registered Nurse in 1918 or 1919. She practiced nursing in South Hill, Virginia, at Community Memorial Hospital.
It always bothered her that she was older than her husband, and so she created several records showing her born about 1908. They were false. When she applied for Social Security, she confirmed that she was born in 1904.

Helen Vaughan ELLER and Claude Street POWERS were married on 16 Oct 1933 in Little Church, New York, NY. Claude Street POWERS (son of Harvey Street POWERS and Addie Maye TERRELL) was born on 28 Jun 1908 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He died on 3 Mar 1975 in South Hill, Virginia. He was buried in Kenbridge Cemetary. Claude S. POWERS left the family farm when he was in his teens to work for the Kelly Tire Company and so he never completed High School. In the 1940's, he worked for Peoples Drug Stores in Washington. It was there he met and married Helen Eller.
He joined the Navy during World War II, but quickly received a medical discharge.
About 1950, he operated a Western Auto store in Chatham, Virginia. Later in the 50's, he returned home to work for Watkins Motor Company selling cars. Later he worked for Carson Ford in Kenbridge and Jackson Motors in Chase City.
He lost a leg to a circulation problem in 1972. He died from a heart attack. Helen Vaughan ELLER and Claude Street POWERS had the following children:
