FIFTH GENERATION
6. Henry BAILEY
was born about 1700 in Henrico County, Virginia. He died about 1761 in Lunenburg
County, VA.
Henry received 590 acres in Lunenburg County (North of the Meherrin River adjacent
to property owned by Mize and Vaughan) in a Regal Patent in May 1759. The land
includes 320 acres that had been previously granted to William Bowling. Bowling
sold that land to Henry Bailey on 19 Mar 1749 (Lunenburg Deed Book 2, p. 163).
We know from his will in Lunenburg County that he has a wife Avis and son William
and other (un-named) children.
Some researchers believe Henry may have had two wives, an Amy and an Avis. I
believe they are the same person.
We are pretty certain that the child designated here as "unknown" is
one of the male children listed by name but we are uncertain which one. The
most likely candidates are William and John who purchase land in the area where
"unknown's" son later lives.
He was married to Avis UNK about 1721 in Bristol Parish, Virginia.
Henry BAILEY and Avis UNK had the following children:
+15 i.
Unknown BAILEY.
+16 ii.
Francis Oher BAILEY.
17 iii.
George BAILEY(2) was born on 2
Jun 1725 in Bristol Parish, Henrico County, Virginia.
18 iv.
John BAILEY(2) was born on 23 Oct
1727 in Bristol Parish, Henrico County, Virginia. In 1754, Henry Bailey (father)
sells his son Williamn 226 acres of the land he bought from William Bowing (DB
4. p 137).
In 1761, about the tiime of their father's death, William sells John Bailiey
(his brother) 220 acres that appear to be the same parcel (DB 10, p.213). And
at the same time, John sells William 132 acres nearby (adjacent to the Vaughan
land)(DB 10, p.214). In this transaction, John is described as being from Edgecomb
County, NC.
We believe this puts John or William on the parcel of land on which we later
find Richard Henry Lee, making one of these two me the most likely father.

William BAILEY.

Martha BAILEY(2) was born on 30
Mar 1735 in Bristol Parish, Henrico County, Virginia. |
